  • George Washington National Forest: Harrisonburg is a gateway to some of the best backcountry mountain biking in the Eastern US. Trails are often rocky, rooty, and challenging.
    • Narrowback Mountain / Lookout Mountain: Offers several classic loops and descents like Tillman West, Lookout Mountain Trail, and Dogway.
    • Reddish Knob: Known for its epic (and often shuttled) ~4,000-foot descent on trails like Timber Ridge. Requires significant skill and fitness if not shuttled.
    • Massanutten Western Slopes: A challenging network of rocky trails built by the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC).
  • Massanutten Resort Bike Park: Offers lift-accessed downhill trails with a mix of machine-built flow and natural technical terrain. It's a separate pay-to-ride facility.
